Press Release:
Women in Electronics Atlanta Chapter Keeps on Giving as They Reach Milestone Scholarship Awards and Charitable Donation Total of $200,000

Duluth, Georgia, December 9, 2011-- Women in Electronics (WIE), Atlanta Chapter awarded GeorgiaFIRST with a $1300 donation during the WIE November General Meeting and Silent Auction held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth, Georgia.

This significant contribution enabled WIE to reach a milestone of giving $200,000 in academic scholarships and charitable donations since 1985!

WIE’s mission is to network with other local organizations and individuals in order to identify and support programs and opportunities which positively impact our local community and the future education, success, and presence of women in the electronics/technology industry.

WIE chose GeorgiaFIRST as the recipient of their milestone donation because they are a highly effective non-profit organization that relies on volunteers, sponsors and donations to operate in order to support their educational programs designed to inspire our youth to be successful in science, math and technology.

Funding for WIE’s programs is generated through Corporate Sponsorship and proceeds from the organization’s annual fundraisers, the principal event being the electronics industry’s premiere golf tournament. WIE will hold their 19th Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser, sponsored by Spectral Response, on April 23, 2012 at Reunion Golf Club in Hoschton, Georgia.

WIE awards annual academic scholarships to female students studying in the field of Electronics/Technology at local colleges & universities. WIE also supports other non-profit, charitable organizations throughout the year; GeorgiaFIRST and the United Way have been recent beneficiaries.

WELCOME TO WOMEN IN ELECTRONICS

Women in Electronics is a non-profit regional organization founded to provide a professional network for women involved in all segments of the electronics industry. Our membership includes business owners and women working in areas such as Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales, Human Resources, and Administrative, just to name a few.

Our meetings provide a forum for the exchange of information. Different topics are explored, offering members a broad spectrum of programs that cover technical and non-technical issues. New products and approaches are presented to keep everyone abreast of the constant changes in the electronics field.

As part of our commitment to encourage and support women in our field, we have an established scholarship fund to provide educational assistance to bright, promising females. These scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, and participation in extracurricular activities. Funding for this program is provided by the proceeds of annual fundraisers and corporate sponsorships. To date, WIE has donated over $200,000 in scholarships and charitable contributions.

Please join us at a meeting, we are sure you will find it a fun, learning experience.
