WIE is now accepting APPLICATIONS for 2010 SCHOLARSHIPS!
It is with great excitement that we find it is time once again for Women In Electronics to request applications from candidates for our 2010 scholarship program! The Atlanta Chapter of Women In Electronics is in its 25th year and in that time we have awarded $171,000 to local colleges, universities and charitable organizations.
WIE scholarships are awarded to female students majoring in electronics, engineering, computer science, information technology or related fields. Scholarships are awarded based on Academic Excellence as well as Financial Need, Community/School Involvement and Personal Achievement. Scholarships are paid to the Financial Aid Department of the educational institution. The monetary awards are intended to lower the student’s financial aid balances when they exist.
The following information is required and must be submitted by each candidate by Monday, April 5, 2010:
1. Transcripts
2. Financial Data (loan balances, other scholarships, etc)
3. A 2010 WIE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION completed in its entirety.
Personal interviews with the selected candidates will be scheduled for Tuesday, April 27th starting at 2:00 PM. These interviews will be conducted at the office of Spectrum Staffing, 2862 Buford Highway, Suite 200, Duluth, GA 30096. The selected student(s) will be notified via email of their scheduled interview time.
Both the student candidate(s) and their advisor(s) will be notified of our decisions via email on or before May 3, 2010. All Scholarship Recipients are requested to be in attendance to personally accept their academic scholarship at our Annual Scholarship Award and Sponsor Appreciation Night Dinner Banquet, Thursday, May 13, 2010 at Berkeley Hills Country Club, 2300 Pond Road, Duluth, GA 30096. We also encourage the student advisors to attend as well. WIE will provide complimentary dinners for the student, one guest, and one advisor.

Guest Speaker: Ms. Nancy Harris, Mayor, City of Duluth
Topic: "Healthy Organizations and Healthy Cities"
Mayor Nancy Harris has made a personal commitment to serve her hometown of Duluth, Georgia. Being a life long resident of Duluth for over 50 years, she has witnessed much growth and change. It is her goal, as City Mayor, to work closely with citizens and the City Administrative Staff to ensure quality growth in Duluth.
Bio: Mayor Nancy Harris has two children and one son-in-law. She is retired from Gwinnett County Public Schools and currently a part-time staff member of Mercer University. Ms. Harris earned both her Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and Master of Education Educational Supervision Degrees from the University of Georgia. She is an Educational Specialist in Educational Adminsitration and has been Principal for B.B. Harris, Suwanee and Norton Elementary Schools.
Mayor Nancy Harris' portfolio of Community Involvement includes: Duluth Historical Society, Duluth Fall Festival, Duluth Civitan, Member of Duluth First Baptist Church, Atlanta Bicycle Campaign Member, United Way Community Investment Leader, Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Festival, Georgia Municipal Association, Leadership Gwinnett Steering Committee, Partnership Gwinnett, Metro Atlanta Mayor's Association, Gwinnett Municipal Association, League of Professional Schools On-Site Consultant, Honorary Member of Duluth Kiwanis, Executive Board Member of Gwinnett Mosaic Rotary, Executive Board Member of Rainbow Village, Atlanta Regional Commission Environmental Land Use Committee and Leadership Gwinnett Alumni of Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.
